About the Work
Memories & Dialogues

This series of work deals with the lingering memories that remain embedded in the body and mind, long after the experience is past. There is a certain continuance of the interactions and relations we live with others, and are carried into our present and our future. They are often brought back by a scent, a place, a word, even by the inexplicable "déjà-vu."

In works such as Displaced Baggage the images express, through a superimposition of instants that are no longer a series of events, a general and often abstract image of the impression the memory has left on us. There is an emotional connection to the memories, that is no longer tied to the origin, but has now become entirely personal and subjective. Sometimes it's the sweet lingering of sensuality, while others a frustration of unresolved matters.

In the hands series, there is an exploration of the transference of these lingering energies from one being to another. There is an idea of the perpetuation of the exchanges we experience throughout our life.

In a negative sense, this type of rememberance is commonly called baggage. This baggage is what often leads to the creation of vicious circles that lead to a series of "history repeats itself" or "fulfilled profecies" experiences, although we often fail to recognize it.

The work does not necessarily propose a solution to breaking these circles. Rather, it attempts only to bring these emotional memories to light, like a theatrical play, but with no beginning and no end.
